Definition. A minimal, immutable Linux image maintained by AWS for container workloads, primarily for Kubernetes on EKS and for ECS. Bottlerocket takes a similarly strict approach to Talos (read-only root, atomic updates, no package manager in the classic sense) but is tightly integrated into the AWS ecosystem.

Why it matters. If you run Kubernetes workloads on AWS, Bottlerocket gives you an official, well-maintained image line that makes patching and hardening more predictable. A generic cloud Linux is no longer needed as the worker node OS.
