Definition. A CMS designed for the requirements of larger organisations: multisite, multi-language, granular permissions, workflows/workspaces, versioning, multi-tenant structures, long maintenance cycles (LTS) and stable APIs. The term describes a class, not a specific product.
Why it matters. In a mid-sized context, “enterprise” usually means robust roles, several brands, several countries. That is exactly what many mid-sized platforms have to cover without the budget of large-corporation solutions.
