Definition. An architecture pattern in which content from several source systems (CMS, PIM, DAM, knowledge base, external databases) is brought together in a shared, retrievable layer, typically via APIs, caching and a consolidated data model. Unlike a migration, the source systems remain in place.
Why it matters. At mid-sized companies, content rarely lives in one place. Content federation is the pragmatic answer to this without starting a “big re-platforming project”. It makes existing sources usable instead of replacing them.
