Definition. A system and platform architecture designed from the start for agents, retrieval pipelines and programmatic consumption, with documented APIs, stable identities, tool manifests (e.g. MCP), structured content and controllable machine authorisation. The UI remains one of several views of the same data, not the primary model.

Why it matters. AI-first is not a prerequisite for AI visibility. It is a response to the fact that humans are no longer the only users of a platform. For mid-sized platforms it is usually a target architecture, not a big-bang refactor.
